what i found interesting...

Chapter 8

I found the first section of chapter 8 to be interesting because I have never known what a general claim was. So therefore the definition of a general claim is reasons that asserts something in a general way about all or part of a collection. I thought the first few examples that the book used was very interesting because it helped me gain a better understanding about general claims. I liked how they explained what general claims are by using easy to understand examples. After reading this part of the chapter I think I gained a lot more knowledge about general claims and I can now use it in my everyday life. He uses different types of examples such as the example about, all means “every single one, no exceptions.” It should be very obvious to everyone of what the definition of all is anyways. So it should not be a surprise to anyone at all.

  1. I also found general claims interesting. It was confusing to me at first, but after I read the examples, it gave me a better understanding. A lot of the concepts in chapter 8 were interesting, but I have to say this is the most. It struck out the most because I learned something new that I hadn’t already known. I tend to find new things interesting because I’ve learned something new. I have to agree that the examples provided were understandable. Most of the time I get a bit confused, but this one was straight forward compared to the other examples the book provided.

  2. I found this concept of general claims and their contradictories interesting, too! It was slightly hard for me to grasp the concepts at first but now they make much more sense. I also agree with what greenapples above me said. The examples in this chapter were a lot easier to comprehend and they really were more straightforward. In my post I talked about “some” and “all” and how they affect general claims. Learning these concepts really help me a lot in every day life. I’m actually starting to win arguments with my boy because of all these new things I’m learning from the book! Haha.
